Society

Our social commitment focuses particularly on regional and local initiatives which support the interests of kidney patients.

Kidney Kid

Ģý utilizes its experience and expertise to raise awareness for good kidney health as part of the company's social commitment to local communities. In Asia-Pacific, the ĢýKidney KidĢý corporate social responsibility initiative was launched in 2017 aiming to support the early education on kidney health for children. In Taiwan, among other countries across the region, the response to this initiative was overwhelmingly positive. Ģý Taiwan has educated over 800 students and teachers on kidney care in two years.

How a superhero wins over Asia-Pacific

Ģý visits various schools in Taiwan to increase students' knowledge of their kidneys.

Extending the campaign in 2019, the first-ever kidney care education childrenĢýs book was launched in Taiwan. A comprehensive ĢýedutainmentĢý (education + entertainment) program is executed alongside the promotion of the book to educate children and their caregivers in a fun and interactive way. Joining hands with our partners and forming the ĢýKidney AvengersĢý, Ģý Taiwan aims to raise the Taiwanese publicĢýs awareness of kidney disease as well as to establish a healthy lifestyle since childhood. Touring with the "Reading Hope Bus" on a year-long journey through 150 rural area schools from 2019 to 2020, the book will raise kidney care awareness everywhere in Taiwan and promote the importance of kidney health to TaiwanĢýs next generation.

Our emergency aid in crisis situations

Ģý operates dialysis facilities in many regions of the world, with diverse geographic, societal and economic conditions. As kidney dialysis patients need treatments every two to three days to survive, we have developed a robust emergency response program, which enables us to operate smoothly in the event of crisis or disaster. To continue providing our patients with their vital dialysis treatment, even in extreme conditions, we have established a system of regionally organized emergency response teams. Their task is to protect patients and employees in emergency situations and to give patients the best possible care, even under extremely difficult conditions. In addition to our disaster response activity, we donate funds, dialysis machines and medical supplies to organizations that urgently require help.

In 2018, our response to the life-threatening conditions caused by Hurricanes Michael and Florence in the U.S. is a good example of ĢýĢýs social responsibility and our strong commitment to our patients. Our Disaster Response Team prepared for the storm well in advance and actively monitored its track so that we could continue caring for our patients as well as providing support and safety for our employees.  to see how we supported patients impacted by Hurricane Michael in Panama City, Florida. Applying best practices from prior hurricane seasons, we made sure that all patients and staff were accounted for after the storm and were happy to report only minor damages to the facilities.

Our partners

In addition, we look for partners who share our idea to advance holistic renal health care, for example:

Renal Support Network

In the U.S., we are working with Renal Support Network (RSN) to empower people living with chronic kidney disease. Together, we are helping patients and their families become knowledgeable and proactive about their care. We believe support networks such as RSN are critical to holistic care.

National Kidney Foundation

In the U.S., we are partnering with the National Kidney Foundation to support the fight against kidney disease, one step at a time. During the last years our employees joined at several Kidney Walks organized by the National Kidney Foundation to raise money.

American Nephrology Nurses Association

In the U.S., we are working closely with the American Nephrology Nurses AssociationĢýs (ANNA) scholarship program to provide funding for nurses, so they can become members, attend meetings, and work toward certification in nephrology.

The Ģý Foundation

We are empowering patients, reaching prospective donors, and mobilizing employees. In 2018, we launched the Ģý Foundation in the U.S. with the goal to raise awareness and provide support to people living with kidney disease.

With the foundation we would like to help those patients, families, and communities that are most greatly impacted by kidney disease. The Foundation is focused on raising awareness about kidney disease as well as highlighting transplantation as a lifesaving solution.

Through partnerships with leading nonprofit organizations like Donate Life America the Ģý Foundation is working to ensure every eligible person who needs a kidney receives one.

Donate Life America

The Ģý Foundation partners with the nationĢýs leading organ transplant organization, Donate Life America, to bring to market innovations that will profoundly change the kidney donation process. Through the development of the first-ever home testing kit for living donors and the first national, universal living donor registry, we will create a platform that makes it easier to identify living donors and match them to patients in need.

The Big Ask Ģý The Big Give

The kidney transplant waiting list is getting longer, and in response, the National Kidney Foundation has developed its "The Big Ask Ģý The Big Give" program. With the help of workshops and other information campaigns it raises awareness and educates kidney patients, their families, and friends about living kidney donation and transplantation. The Ģý Foundation has invested in the growth of the initiative.
